Recorded in New York with a stellar lineup—including Clark Terry, Phil Woods, Zoot Sims, Benny Golson, and Harry "Sweets" Edison—it showcases Jones's ability to blend hard-swinging big-band jazz with soulful, modern sensibilities.
In terms of his musical heritage, this record is foundational: it marks his first major big-band statement on Mercury Records and foreshadows his later work fusing jazz, orchestral writing, and popular music.
